Next to Paul's boat were a team of German media, singing, laughing and drinking beer. But not for long, they were soon feeding the fishes one by one - bobbling up and down is not good for the stomach!

At the end, champion surfer Kelly Slater had won the day and on the way back, the heavens emerged to twin rainbows as though to say ‘au revoir’.

What a day, what an incredible spectacle.
